Artist's Comments

Okay, let's get this year started with some decay art (how surprising). I found this scene while I was walking aimlessly in Riga. The place was found on the shore of Daugava, a river dividing the city. Some sort of concrete memory of the Soviet era, I'd guess. Ruins of an industrial or military harbour? Detail shots will follow.

Beautiful shot! Absolutely awesome. I think you got the exposure just right on this one...really makes the texture of it work well.

Isn't it just amazing how what we've deemed as "ruins" are often so beautiful ? The angle on this is so good. I love how it leads your eye as many of your works often do. Keep them coming.

Yes it is amazing. The beauty of decay catches my eye very often. I guess my gallery is pretty much filled with all kinds of abandoned, broken and worn out stuff.

I'll keep posting photos, there are lots of pictures on my publishing queue.

Thanks mate. This kind of exposure was achieved using the semi-automatic setting (P), and an underexposure of 2/3. This leads quite often to preferred results when shooting against (not too strong) light sources. Not too complicated...

Im not soo keen on this as a photograph myself...
You have alot way better works in your archive..

Though what interests me, is the history part ;)
Did you take any more pictures??
Its impossible to say what this could have been.. though docks are the most obvious answer..
As a historical enthusiast and collector Id love it if you could take some more shots, or direct me to exactly where this was taken?

I did take a bunch of photographs from the site, but the rest are more "detail shots" and they will not give a clear impression of the place.

Try putting these coordinates to Google Earth or some other map service, and you'll see where the place is:
56°55'39.34"N
24° 7'18.32"E

I wonder where I could find more info on the place...
